Brayton has received funding under the SBIR program to develop an advanced air bearing turbocharger for small unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). The novel turbocharger provides significant weight reduction, while incorporating very high performance aerodynamics and control features. The turbocharger is suitable for 50 to 200 hp class UAVs. The air bearing design represents a significant advancement in production cost potential, intended to cost only a few hundred dollars in moderate production levels.
