Following a successful Phase 1 design study, Brayton was awarded the follow-on contract to further the advancement of the sCO2 solar receiver. The team is performing detailed analysis of three solar receivers. In the small category, the team has performed a detailed design of a 5 MWthermal cavity receiver, optically matched to the Solar Thermal Test Facility at Sandia National Labs. The specifications for that design deliver CO2 at 750 C and 25 MPa at the receiver exit. Two other larger external receivers are under design, optimized for large central receivers in the 20 to 200 MW-thermal range. The novel design utilized Brayton’s patented micro-channel cellular elements.
