The California Energy Commission announced that PACCAR and Brayton will receive funding for an advanced gas turbine truck demonstrator program. Working as subcontractor to Kenworth, a division of PACCAR, Brayton will install our ICR-350 into a Kenworth truck for pilot demonstration in California. The engine will be updated to provide multi-fuel operation, enabling seamless transition between natural gas and liquid fuels (diesel or gasoline). Operating on either fuel, the engine will meet CARB emission standards. In fact testing experience on natural gas indicates that the ICR-350 beats the California emissions standards for an electric vehicle, or so called ‘near-zero’ emission vehicles. Considering the wells-to-wheels emissions, the ICR-350’s compliance with the most stringent stationary power plant emission standards, and its very high efficiency (>40%) result in emissions levels (NOx, Co and CO2) below those generated in all-electric vehicles. The truck will hit the road in late 2011.
