MIT Micro Channel Heat Recuperator

  • Develop a micro profile heat exchanger to recover heat from combustion exhaust. Develop a manufacturing processes for micro channel flow with minimal pressure losses.
  • Architecture: Plate fin dual pass microchannel recuperator. Uni-construction brazement.
  • New process of crushing fin to form a dual pass flow channel when integrated with edge bar and parting sheets. Integration with a microcombustor for thermophotovoltaic (TPV) power generation at 85% effectiveness.
  • Military field service personnel are fitted with many electronic and battery-powered high tech equipment and tools. This project sought to support the Army Research Lab to design and build a microscale recuperator to recover heat losses from liquid fueled thermoelectric conversion through special high temp photovoltaic cells.
