Brayton Energy successfully completed the design and quality tests in support of a concentrating solar receiver for a 10 MWe power plant. The CSP power plant employs the highly efficient supercritical carbon dioxide cycle and is expected to approach thermal to electric efficiency of 50% at normal rating conditions. Known as the SunShot program, Brayton received the highly competitive DOE award in 2013. Brayton’s novel receiver operates at sCO2 temperatures of 750 C and 25MPa. Testing showed that the receiver design will achieve a design-point rated efficiency over 90% with creep, fatigue, and oxidation life of 30 years. The DOE Success Story article is found here:
